Thank you, Jorge. I had never seen these photos before. What's more, the photo of the two girls together at the white gate disproves my guess in a different blog item that only one girl was present, wearing two different outfits. There were at least two ladies on the lawn that day.
ReplyDelete...an additional point is that your photos show that the "lawn" in question must have been very near the factory. The factory roofline (including, faintly, "Royal Enfield" visible painted on the roof) and walls are seen in some photos. Note the "Repair" sign visible behind the two girls. Royal Enfield did perform some repairs at the factory. An interesting question might be what was a white picket fence doing on factory grounds? I think it may be the original employee lunchroom, or canteen, which is described as a somewhat insubstantial building and, of course, was replaced by the big, formal canteen building in 1943. Possibly the picket fence was to make the little lunchroom seem more inviting? The factory did provide playing fields for employees, including soccer, so wider photos were probably shot there, facing away from buildings.
