Henry Shrapnel (1761-1842) was a British Army officer and inventor, most famously of the "shrapnel shell". His family lived in Midway Manor in Westwood, Wiltshire, about 2 miles away from Royal Enfield's factory number 2, the underground factory. His family owned the Greenland Mills in Bradford upon Avon that were used by Royal Enfield after world war II.
Midway Manor recently sold for 5.5 million pounds. You can see pictures here. The entrance to the house, quite appropriately, is flanked by two pillars crowned by shrapnel shells.
