Readers of this blog are probably familiar with
Ural motorcycles. The history of Ural motorcycles has a bit of a parallel with Royal Enfield. The Soviet Union started producing motorcycles based on the BMW R71 after a secret deal part of the Ribbentrop-Molotov agreement prior to World War II. Then communism essentially "froze" the design of these motorcycles at a 1950/60's stage, and so one can buy today a brand new bike of that vintage. Pretty much like Royal Enfield. Now GE
will give financial backing to dealers selling Urals. This allows the dealers to get GE financing to stock their showrooms. Perhaps Royal Enfield could strike a similar deal? The reasons they give for financing Ural apply to Royal Enfield as well...
