Setting Free the Bears is the first novel by American author John Irving, published in 1968 by Random House. You can read a bit about the plot in this contemporary New York Times review. That motorcycle there is a 700cc Royal Enfield (presumably an Interceptor).
The Royal Enfield motorcycle is an important character in the novel and the descriptions of it certainly make it a memorable one.
