Picture is from 1927. In 1938 she fled Japan's fascism with his lover and defected to the Soviet Union. As with other cases, however, they were accused of spying, his lover was executed and she spent 10 years in the gulag. At the end of her confinement she retook her career and co-directed a movie. She died in Moscow in 1992.
