I decided last weekend to take a trip to the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, Iowa. The museum is closing for good in September and the bikes will be auctioned by Mecum, so I had to take a look before it closed. I had been reluctant to go, because to get there is a three plane ride from home, it costs as much as a trip to Europe, and with US airports experiencing 25% delayed flights, is guaranteed to end up in a nightmare trip. Which it did, the inbound went without a hitch but on the return my 6am flight was canceled and I was rebooked on a 7pm flight that was delayed. So the whole thing started Friday early morning and ended up with me at home at 1am Monday morning. Just for a 2 hour museum visit.
Nevertheless, it was worth it. The museum hosts over 475 bikes. This may not sound as much, it is half of the number of the UK National Museum or 1/5 of the Mecum auction I attended in February. But the bikes were tastefully arranged. For instance, they had a hillclimbing scene,
Great photos and what a spectacular collection. Thank you for documenting it. I am sorry you had such a difficult pilgrimage, but it was the last chance. I was there years ago, but you photographed many great items I had forgotten or didn't see at the time.
